Haiti Earthquake Update (July 27, 2022)
Last August a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti, killing 2,200 people and damaging or destroying thousands of homes. In the months since the earthquake, Haiti has been further devastated by widespread gang violence, skyrocketing food costs, and a lack of access to essential items.
Our partners in Haiti responded to the earthquake immediately and have been involved in the relief work ever since. In the weeks after the earthquake, our partners distributed over 200,000 pounds of food to thousands of families and provided medical care to 877 people. Their relief efforts led to over 30 baptisms!
Our long-term recovery has focused on building safe and secure homes for families that will be able to withstand future natural disasters. Thousands of houses were destroyed in the earthquake, leaving families living in makeshift tent cities and sometimes just out in the open. The extreme poverty in Haiti typically prevents families from saving money, so they have very little ability to recover from disasters like the earthquake. By building safe and secure housing that will last for generations, we have the opportunity to change the trajectory of an entire family.
So far, we have built 48 homes! 48 families will have a safe place to raise their children, providing stability and security to the next generation. After receiving the keys to her new home, one mother said, “God has blessed my family so much. He has poured out His Grace on us. We are so thankful to your staff that came here to rebuild our home. Through you all, God provided us a way out of everything that was broken. Now we have a new, safe place to sleep. My heart is so happy. Thank you so much for everything you have done for us!”

The country of Haiti has been struggling for many months now after the presidential assassination, followed by a devastating earthquake.
IDES has worked with 12 different partners to provide food, water, tarps and temporary shelters. We have repaired more than 50 homes and because of your generous donations, we have committed more than half a million dollars in aid for the people of Haiti
IDES is currently working with Damou Christian Mission and Jeremie Christian Mission rebuilding homes in Haiti. We have completed 8 homes already and are continuing to rebuild others.
January 25, 2021
Over the past few weeks several smaller earthquakes have hit the country of Haiti. The largest earthquake hit yesterday morning with a magnitude of 5.3 killing 2 people. Please continue to pray for the people of Haiti as they are still recovering from the earthquakes that hit late 2021 and are dealing with the effects of these additional earthquakes.
Haiti Home Building Project: September 28, 2021
IDES begins constructing new homes in Haiti! The official count of buildings damaged by the August 14th Haiti earthquake was 136,800 buildings. Nearly 61,000 of these buildings were homes that were completely destroyed leaving thousands homeless. At the cost of $10,000 each, IDES partners have already begun with the construction of the first homes! In addition to food, supplies, and medical care already provided, IDES’ first phase includes building 30 homes.
Phase 1 of the project is to build 30 homes at $10,000 each. IDES would love to see churches and individuals partner with us to complete Phase 1. Our prayer is to begin Phase 2 in 2022 as God provides the funds for this challenging project.

Haiti Update: Thursday, August 19, 2021
IDES partners in Haiti are doing an incredible job of assessing the earthquake damage and coordinating their needs with us. They are beginning to provide emergency relief and making plans for the future. IDES has already sent significant emergency funding for immediate needs and is continuing to make funds available as plans are developing.
Partners report:
Lack of shelter supplies (tarps, tents, roofing, plywood etc). A numerous amount of people are being forced to sleep on the ground without any sort of shelter or bedding.
Need for food and water (IDES sent a shipping container of almost 260,000 GAP meals which is en route to one of our partners to offer immediate relief)
Need for medical supplies and care
Need for hygiene supplies
Many of the previously blocked roads have been cleared allowing some of our partners to begin sending doctors, nurses, and ministers into the hardest-hit areas to establish emergency triage clinics.
Several of our partners are also reporting flooding due to the tropical storm that hit shortly after the earthquake. This is causing relief and recovery efforts to be delayed, and also creating mudslides which cause even more damage to the already desperate situation.

Haiti Update: Monday, August 16, 2021
We have been in contact with over a dozen partners around the south and central parts of Haiti. Today IDES sent $60,000 to 6 partners to start our initial push of Help & Hope.
The entire country is holding its breath waiting to see if more aftershocks will cause even more damage while rescue efforts are still ongoing. We have other partners dealing with cracked homes and churches with concerns of future collapses.
The death toll is up to 1,300 with numbers expected to rise daily. 3,000 people are still unaccounted for and at least 5,700 injured and over 7,000 homes destroyed.
In addition to the earthquake, it has been raining since early Monday afternoon from the incoming tropical depression. Our mission partners have already seen water rising and there are concerns about flash flooding.
Resources are more available in Port-au-Prince but are difficult to get safely. Prices are high and supplies are running out quickly. Roads are starting to be cleared from debris with the hope that people are able to get what they need soon to be ready for a potential flood.

7.2 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Haiti
Around 8:30am this morning (Saturday, August 14th) a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti just miles from L'Asile. As of 5pm this evening, Haitian civil protection services, more than 200 people have died and hundreds have been injured or missing as a result of this earthquake. Several buildings and other structures have been reduced to nothing but rubble and Haitian government officials have issued a State of Emergency.
IDES staff members have been in contact with several of our partners in Haiti. Many of our partners have sustained severe damage from this earthquake and are looking to begin the recovery process.
IDES is sending emergency funds to Haiti immediately, and making plans to send future aid to those hit by this earthquake.
