Eastern Kentucky continues to recover from the devastating flooding that occurred in August. IDES has been able to oversee the repairs of 5 different homes damaged by these floods.

We have recently partnered with a local contractor, through our partnering church, to continue the relief work in this area. We are grateful for the volunteers who gave of their time to help those in their time of need.

Miss Ella, a widow of 10 years, is one of the flood victims that we are helping in Kentucky. Her story is heart-wrenching. She has custody of 4 of her grandchildren. They live in a trailer down by a creek and the water started coming up around 2 am but they weren’t too worried. Two hours later she got up and noticed a bit of water in the bathroom and within 30 minutes the water was up to their waists. They grabbed their animals and one of the grandsons threw her up on his shoulder and carried her to higher ground. Their house is ruined with mold already starting to grow in their house – a total loss. We are looking to help with temporary housing and beyond.

Thousands have been left without power and the death toll continues to rise. We are partnering with two local churches in Kentucky to begin our relief work.

We will provide IDES Care Kits, coordinate volunteers, and lead the area's cleanup crews.
