Kenyan Farms
10 farms, $150,000

Kenyan Farms
A Sustainable Source of Food & Income
Throughout the history of IDES, we have been blessed with incredible mission partners. Our work cannot proceed or get done without them. Christian Missionary Fellowship International is one of our mission partners and this year we are joining them once again to establish new farms for the Turkana People.
In 2005, CMF Missionaries in Kenya were convicted of the severity of health issues related to unclean water and inadequate food supplies among the Turkana people. Parents expected half of their children to die of water related diseases. The Turkana People have historically depended on relief food efforts nine or more months out of the year.
To address these issues, CMF launched a program to provide clean water and irrigated farms. In 2007 CMF began the Turkana Water and Farm Development project and have been instrumental in reversing these trends and building the Church in Turkana. IDES came alongside the project in 2014 and helped establish 30 new farms. This year, we are joining CMF once again to create 10 new farms at a cost of $150,000.
The Turkana People were once an unreached people group but through prayer and hard work the gospel is beginning to flourish. The CMF team focuses on leadership training, which is now being facilitated by 12 Turkana trainers who lead 1,230 disciple makers, who in turn lead 1,138 groups with more than 9,000 members. In 2019 alone, there were 2,600 baptisms and more than 7,000 from 2017-2019. There were 96 churches among the Turkana at the end of 2019. The established farms are also used as sites for their Discovery Bible groups and they are also having a great impact.
“IDES continues to be a great partner for CMF, especially in the area of building wells and irrigated farming in the Turkana desert,” said David Giles, CMF’s Director of Church Catalyst. “It takes a lot of work and financial support to establish the farms. We thank God for IDES and its support of this water project that restores hope to the most vulnerable in Turkana!”
